Using full message exchange for probabilistic clock synchronization (extended abstract)

چکیده
Instead of immediately replying as in [cri89], the master records the value of its clock and continues its work. During the next FME, it inserts the previously recorded value and the actual value of its clock in the message to the server. If the server measures the entire round trip delay, it can obtain an approximation of the value of the master clock using Cristian's reading method modified to take account of the time twait elapsed from the receiving time and the answering time.

Probabilistic Clock Synchronization Service in Sensor Networks
Recent advances in technology have made low cost, low power wireless sensors a reality. Clock synchronization is an important service in any distributed system, including sensor network systems. Applications of clock synchronization in sensor networks include data integration in sensors, sensor reading fusion, TDMA medium access scheduling, and power mode energy saving. However, for a number of...
متن کاملProbabilistic Internal Clock Synchronization
We propose an improved probabilistic method for reading remote clocks in systems subject to unbounded communication delays and use this method to design a family of fault-tolerant probabilistic internal clock synchronization protocols. The members of this family differ in the failure classes they tolerate, from crash to arbitrary. Because of probabilistic reading, our protocols achieve better s...
متن کاملClock synchronization in virtual rings
A probabilistic algorithm for external clock synchronization is proposed. The algorithm works under the assumption that it is possible to identify a virtual ring among the servers involved, and does not require an upper bound to message trasmission delays. The approach is probabilistic, since clock synchronization is not guaranteed, but the probability of success can be made arbitrarily close t...
متن کاملAn Overview of a Class of Clock Synchronization Algorithms for Wireless Sensor Networks: A Statistical Signal Processing Perspective
Recently, wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have drawn great interest due to their outstanding monitoring and management potential in medical, environmental and industrial applications. Most of the applications that employ WSNs demand all of the sensor nodes to run on a common time scale, a requirement that highlights the importance of clock synchronization. The clock synchronization problem in W...
متن کاملFault-Tolerant Clock Synchronization in Environments with High Message Delay Variation
| Fault-tolerant clock synchronization is an important requirement in many distributed systems, especially in time-critical and safety-critical applications. Frequently, interactive convergence algorithms are used for fault-tolerant clock synchronization, providing advantages such as fully-distributed operation, low message exchange overhead and simplicity of implementation. This paper presents...
